Where: Hucknall U3A is located immediately north of the City of Nottingham in the U.K East Midlands.

Members: We have been in operation now for 6 years and were created by the neighbouring Ashfield U3A following their formation 2 years earlier. We have 360 members and currently restrict membership to that level and also to local residency. The leisure centre where we hold our monthly meetings as a limit of approximately 240 persons and our normal attendance fluctuates between 200-220 each month. With Interest Groups numbering about 45 we tend to be more of a social activities club than educational.

Activities: Afternoon Tea, Announcements, Backgammon/Chess, Birdwatching, Bridge, Choir, Committee Corner, Conferences and Courses, Craft Group, Craft Group 2, Creative Writing, Debating Group, Dining In, Dining In Group 2, Drama Group, Easy Wheelers, Family History, Film Club, French Conversation, Gardening Group, General News/Events, History Group, Holidays, Knitting and Crochet, Late Breakfast, Long Walks Group 2, Lunch Group, Mah Jong, Mid-Length Walking Group, Movement to Music, National Trust, New Groups, Pot Luck 2, Reading Group, Science Group, Scrabble, Short Walks, Sport Spectators, Table Games, Tai Chi, Tap Dancing, Theatre News, Train Enthusiasts, U3A National News, Water Colour, Weekenders, Wine Appreciation, World History.

Comment: The end of our current year will no doubt be problematical as after 6 years most of our officers are retiring and recruits for the positions of secretary, treasurer etc have to be found. Finding group leaders is always a problem as the locality from which we recruit suffered from the closure of the coalmines which was a major employer in the area as was the textile trade. Now most working people depend on the nearby city for employment with Nottingham’s one and only Tram service connecting Hucknall with the city centre.
